Here is a shortlist of personal changes that I am trying to make habit:
- I take the bus as often as I can instead of driving.
- My wife and I eat a 90% vegetarian diet to lower the impact of animal farming.
- I haven't taken an international flight since 2012.
- I limit my shower time to five minutes or less most days.
- I teach about the shifting climate patterns every semester.
- We grow our own garden to try to lower food miles on the vegetables we eat.
- We also shop at the local farmers' market for the same reason (and to support the local economy).
These are still small efforts, I know, but making lasting change takes time and commitment. I encourage you to make a list of things you are doing to combat the Climate Crisis. Make a plan and then track how well you are following it. We must be mindful if we wish to make meaningful progress.
